Ford’s Stamping and Assembly Plant in Hermosillo has reached a historic milestone: 7 million vehicles produced since operations began in 1986.
Nearly Four Decades of Excellence
For 38 years, Hermosillo has been at the heart of Ford’s global manufacturing strategy. It started with sedans like the Mercury Tracer and Escort, and later expanded to models such as Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, and Focus. The plant stood out as the first in Mexico to produce hybrid vehicles and to assemble Lincoln models outside the United States—bringing luxury vehicle manufacturing to the country.
Today, more than 3,500 employees work at the site, producing two of Ford’s most iconic global vehicles: the Bronco Sport and the Maverick. Thanks to its flexible manufacturing system, Hermosillo can run multiple models on the same assembly line, ensuring agility, quality, and efficiency.
Investments and Modernization
Over the years, the plant has continuously invested in technology and infrastructure. Highlights include a high-speed stamping line, a 90% modernization of the body shop, and a new specialized Paint Center equipped with cutting-edge systems. The supplier campus, with 17 companies spread across 122 hectares, ensures a seamless flow of materials directly into the plant.
These upgrades have positioned Hermosillo as one of Ford’s most advanced facilities worldwide, capable of adapting quickly to new vehicle programs and market demands.
The 7 Millionth Vehicle
On June 7 at 11:00 a.m., the milestone unit—a blue Ford Bronco Sport—rolled off the final assembly line.
“This achievement is a source of pride for our plant and the community of Hermosillo. Every vehicle carries the dedication of our people and the highest quality standards,” said Eduardo Villegas, Plant Manager.
Ricardo Anaya, Manufacturing Director at Ford of Mexico, added: “With 7 million units produced, we are proud to be home to two global icons that embody the Sonoran spirit: resilience, innovation, and quality.”
A Leader in Sustainability and Quality
Hermosillo has also taken important steps toward sustainability. The plant operates using 100% treated water in its processes, has installed solar panels to reduce energy consumption, and has been recognized for excellence in preventive maintenance and quality. It has earned certifications as a Clean Industry and top rankings in studies such as JD Power, where it achieved first place in the Luxury category with the Lincoln MKZ.
Ford of Mexico Today
Since 1925, Ford of Mexico has been a pioneer in the country’s automotive industry. Today, with more than 14,600 employees, its plants in Hermosillo and Cuautitlán produce the Bronco Sport, Maverick, and Mustang Mach-E, while the Chihuahua operations supply world-class engines. Together, they showcase Ford’s commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability across Mexico.
